Skincare Dream Team

So, I realised this morning that I have found the perfect skincare routine for my skin and thought other people might like to read about that, especially as all the items are readily available here in Malta! I am half asleep as I write this so please forgive me if it’s shit but we’re talking about skincare here, how much brain function does it really need?

My Skin History

Since I was around 22 I’ve been suffering with adult acne and it was horrible. My skin was red, sore and gross, but going on the pill last year seems to have completely cleared it up. As well as hormonally cleared skin, getting older has changed my face a lot recently. I always had insanely oily skin, I never went anywhere without some heavy duty powder as my face would look wet it was so shiny, but that has changed in the past two years. A few lines appeared around my eyes and the oil seems to have reduced drastically. I’d go so far as to call my skin ‘normal to dry’ these days. So, what with all these changes, a new skincare regime was in order.

I’ve been trying a few new things in my quest to move away from ‘blemish prone’ and I’m really happy with the current lineup. It’s minimalistic, simple, quick, easy and my skin’s the best it’s ever looked.

Morning Skincare Routine

I am not a morning person. I’m into a routine of waking up early but whilst my body may be awake, my brain certainly isn’t, so I keep shit simple. In the morning I wash my face with warm water and a gentle soap and that’s it. To moisturise I switch between these two saviour products.

Olay Instant Smoothing Serum

€22.10 from VJ Salomone

This is a super light serum that soaks into my skin instantly. It kind of acts like a primer, and smooths out my pores, whilst still hydrating the skin. I don’t love the Olay packaging, they always seem to find a container that results in so much being wasted but when this stops pumping, I’ll just ruin one of my good knives by hacking it open and making sure to get out every last drop. You can buy this Olay Serum here, from a Maltese online store, with delivery anywhere in Malta! It’s not only smoothing but aims to fight the signs of ageing and whilst I think most of those claims are bollocks, I love how my skin looks since using this so it clearly does something right.

Clinique Turnaround Daytime Revitalising Moisturiser in Rosy Glow

€39 From Melita Pharmacy in St Julians

I first tried this as a sample from Melita pharmacy, they gave me a teeny tiny bottle of it when I dropped my savings on perfume and I fell in love with it from first use. It comes in two ‘shades’ but it doesn’t have a colour on the skin so I’m not sure what the point of that is, but the tester I got was Rosy Glow (as apposed to Golden Glow) so I just stick with that. It looks a tiny bit pink and almost glittery but completely disappears on the skin. It does, however, hydrate more than the Olay Serum, and adds more of a glow. I tend to alternate them, as they both have lasting effects on the skin so overall my skin is smoother, thanks to Olay, and glowy and soft thanks to Clinique. I still prefer matte foundations, but now my skin is less oily, matte can end up looking a bit too flat, so this is the perfect base to lift and brighten.

Nighttime Skincare Routine

I love my evening routine and getting clean and cozy so finding products that really work for me has helped make bedtime my favourite time of day. I remove makeup using Bioderma, rinse my face with water then alternate these two skincare saviours.

Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair:

€62 from Melita Pharmacy in St Julians

For real ladies, this is a fucking skincare HERO. My face has not been the same since I started using this and everyone I know who has tried it says the same thing. The fine lines around my eyes have practically disappeared since this came into my life and it’s just FUN TO USE. I feel like a mad scientist which is apparently a fun way to feel before bed. It is expensive but last time I ran out I left it a few months before repurchasing and I really saw and felt the difference in my skin. It felt dry in the mornings when I woke up, whereas when using this my skin felt soft and hydrated even after 8 hours of sleep.

Clinique Moisture Surge Overnight Mask

€32 from Melita Pharmacy in St Julians

This is the newest addition to my collection and I was pulled in by the word ‘surge’. For someone with fairly ‘normal’ skin I wouldn’t say this is essential and I don’t use it every day but I really like it and will continue to repurchase it. I’d say I use this 3-4 times a week when I want to give my skin a bit of a moisture injection. This will become especially important when summer hits as the combination of tanning, salty sea water, pool water and pollution here in Malta will mean we all really need to take extra care of our faces. Since using this my skin feels even softer to the touch and looks more plump and juicy.
