Breakfast on the Beach

I see that things have been a tad heavy around here lately, what with a dick pic fiasco and whining about being called cold, so I thought it was time to bring a bit of light hearted chit chat on to the blog. Summer is on it’s way here in Malta, with the days getting longer and warmer and the nights still providing some cool relief, so everything feels a little better. So grab a cup of tea and a biscuit and catch up with me!

Gin Cocktails at Thirsty Barber

Went for dinner with some clients last week and after a lovely dinner at Meet in St Julians (a favourite of mine) we headed to the Thirsty Barber for a nightcap. I love the Thirsty Barber, it’s one of the only really cool bar concepts in Malta, with a prohibition theme. The decor is cool, the live music on the weekends creates a wonderful atmosphere and the bar staff are friendly and actually knowledgable. Do you know how hard it is to find bars in Malta where the staff can make cocktails off the menu? I wasn’t really sure what I fancied so he asked me my favourite spirit (I went with gin, I’m a Brit afterall) and made me something absolutely delicious with INSANE presentation.

I mean look at it! It has hearts (which came from a skull shaped bottle), flowers, silver balls… what more could a girl want in a cocktail? He even set the damn thing on fire! I have no idea what was in it other than gin, probably egg white and then who knows. It was sweet, but not sickly, light and fruity and next time I’m there I’ll definitely be asking for another off the cuff creation.

Breakfast on the Beach

Last weekend I spent the day at a volleyball tournament, Slam Tilt, at Golden Bay. I was there as a spectator but didn’t really see much volleyball (there were 6 courts, how do you miss that) as it was a collection of friends and people I’d not seen in ages covering the beach. My friends and I found the perfect spots for our sunbeds and umbrellas so we could relax, keep cool and catch up with everyone walking past. We got there super early to catch up as I hadn’t seen those guys in so long, and to grab some breakfast and a good spot before the beach filled up.

Michael Kors Bags in Malta

Things at work went incredibly well last year and the company was kind enough to treat us all to a bonus, which was paid in April so, of course, I treated myself to a new Michael Kors bag. I am all about the Michael Kors bags. I find the style so classic and they have so many different shapes, sizes and colours that you can have a gorgeous bag for every occasion. I get my Michael Kors bags in Malta from Rebelli as they have a good and up to date selection, stunningly presented store and the team there are so friendly and helpful. This isn’t a great picture of this lil beaut but I’ll do a full post soon about my Michael Kors collection!

Choke

My ASOS addiction is as strong as ever and I noticed they had Lime Crime lipglosses recently. I’ve heard a lot of things about Lime Crime, mainly negative gossip around the brand itself and stealing recipes and ideas but I had spotted a ridiculously sparkly lipgloss of theirs called Choke on Instragram and had to make it mine. It’s impossible to get a good photo of this as it’s iridescent with pink, purple, blue and silver tones but in real life it’s the colour of a shimmering mermaid tail and can be as subtle or dramatic as you want depending on application. Obsessed.

Thank You

Whilst I wanted to keep this light, I also want to address the last few posts and say thank you so much. When I posted about the dick pic on Instagram I expected, if anyone even cared, to be told to stop complaining, to be told to just stop Instagram then or, at worst, be inundated with more pictures to ‘show me’ but all I got was outrage on my behalf, apologies from men (seriously guys, you don’t have to apologise for what the sick minority get up to) and emails, comments and messages of support. The dick pics were the extreme end of the spectrum but even with those aside, people on Instagram are so creepy and I just kind of hit my limit. But everyone has been so positive and kind that I realised it’s silly to stop something you love and I’m going to give myself a break, then come back armed with new ways to deal with these freaks!

Then, a little while later, I posted an emotional post about an issue I think a lot of people deal with; being considered cold. Those who actually know me, know I am not at all. But I can understand why people think it at first, and I especially get that it’s something people throw at you when they don’t get what they want, but that doesn’t make it true. Still, it’s something I’ve had to deal with for most of my adult life and it felt good to get it out and once again the support was absolutely not what I expected. People were so kind and warm and it was empowering and heartwarming to hear from people who have had the same experience in life and who felt good to know they weren’t alone. Because no matter how lonely we feel (and I feel it a lot) none of us are truly alone in what we’re going through. It’s OK not to be OK and it’s always OK to talk about it.

So thank you. Thank YOU.
